Reading and Phonics Resources and Links

Home Reading

Children should read at least once a day for 10 minutes.  Reading is vital in developing vocabulary and a wider understanding of the world.

Encourage your child to read a range of texts, including magazines and newspapers.  Click on the links below to access other online resources:

OXFORD OWL - Free E-books for all ages and tips for helping your child with Reading and                                                                         Phonics

If you click on the links below you can access a range of Reading Comprehension for your child to complete.  Ideally they should do this by themselves first, then look through them together and talk about how they found their answers.

Reading To Your Child

Reading to your child on a daily basis is also extremely important in developing their vocabulary and comprehension skills.  If you don't feel confident to read to them yourselves, why not take a look at our YouTube Channel, Westlands First School, as we will be uploading stories read by staff over the next few weeks?

You can also access some lovely story telling videos on the following links and many of these stories can also be found on their channels on YouTube.
