Spring 2- I want to be...a scientist!
As we have become experts in animals during Spring Term 1, we are now going to develop our scientific skills and knowledge by exploring plants and their structure.
We will be closely examining, drawing and labelling diagrams of a selection of plants and trees. We will also complete investigations to answer the question 'Do all beans grow?' and what plants need to grow. We will be learning how to set up the investigation in order for them to be fair so we can analyse the data.
In our English sessions, we are going to learn the traditional story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Then we will orally retell it and then write it. Once we have learnt the traditional version of the story, we will read 'Jack and the Jelly Beanstalk'.
After orally retelling the story, we will develop our skills on text mapping, writing the story and then use the story to help us recreate our own version, including new objects, characters or animals.
We will also be learning how to write easy to follow instructions and letters to various people.
In history, we will be comparing old and new stamps as recently it has been a celebration of the Penny Black stamp. We will also be designing our own stamp to mark the 50th birthday of our school. The winning design will be included in a time capsule along with letters we have written and other items we think may be interesting to children in the future. This will then be buried in our school grounds.
We are going to have another busy half term and look forward to keeping you updated with what we have been doing on Our Learning page!
