WestlandsFirst School

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

Mrs Gulliver and Mrs Sandell

Home reading

We encourage the children to read as frequently as possible. Being a fluent reader has such a huge impact on learning and enjoyment across all subjects. Our school policy is to read at least 3 times every week and children will receive rewards after every fifth week to acknowledge their completion of home reading.  Please sign your child's reading diary every time they read and add a short comment if you wish. The children will be given an opportunity to change their reading books on Mondays and Wednesdays (Mrs Sandell) and Tuesdays and Thursdays (Mrs Gulliver).

Spellings will be given out on a Monday and tested on the next Monday.

Homework will be set on a half termly basis - please support your child's learning by encouraging them to complete their home learning. The local library has lots of books to help but please let us know if you have any questions.

The children will be taking part in PE lessons twice a week and some of these will be lead by PE specialists.  Please could parents ensure that children have named PE kits and appropriate footwear in school at all times.  We will then send the kits home at the end of each half term for washing. Please ensure that your child either does not wear earrings on PE days or can take them out / cover them with their own tape.

Year 2 Classes will be swimming in the summer term. Letters will be sent home with further details on.
