Homework will be set during the first week of every new half term and will be closely linked to class based learning. The homework will be topic based and will contain elements of Science, Maths and English, which are our core subjects. Homework is due in on the last Monday of every half term.
Children are expected to read as frequently as possible, although this need not be longer than 10 minutes at a time. Our school policy is to read at least 3 times every week and children will receive rewards after every fifth week to acknowledge their completion of home reading. Please sign your child's reading diary every time they read and add a short comment if you wish. As the children have now entered into key stage two, we will be encouraging the children to be more independent in changing their own reading books when they need to.
The children will be taking part in PE lessons twice a week and some of these will be lead by PE specialists. Please could parents ensure that children have named PE kits in school at all times. We will then send the kits home at the end of each half term for washing.
PE days will be:
3KD - Mondays (rugby outdoor PE kit needed) and Wednesdays (swimming kit needed)
3SG - Mondays (rugby outdoor PE kit needed) and Wednesday (indoors).
Dave Rogers from Worcester Warriors will be delivering the Tackling Health programme during the Spring Term. This will be a 5 week programme looking at how we combat tackling a healthier lifestyle with a one hour classroom based activity followed by a one hour tag ruby based activity. We are very much looking forward to welcoming Dave into Westlands in the New Year! For the majority of the time, we will be outdoors so the children will need an outdoor PE kit. Suitable jogging bottoms and trainers/pumps will be needed as well as indoor shorts.
Down the side of our page, there will be a new page for each theme, where you can see our Termly Curriculum Maps and some of the work we will be covering linking to the new National Curriculum. Our exciting topics this year will include:
*Digging into the Past
.... and many more!
